The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual worldwide event that seeks to unify the Christian Churches in prayer. In this event, Christians become aware of the great diversity of ways of expressing prayer and praise to the One God.
On February 6-13, 2010, the Philippine Churches shall celebrate the Week with liturgical services and Youth exposure programs.
This event is jointly coordinated by the National Council of Churches in the Philippines and the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
This year's theme is "You are witnesses of these things", from the gospel of Luke, chapter 24. We are invited to listen to Christ's final discourse before his ascension. It is emphasized that together, we should bear witness of Christ love to the world. That experienced of love is the central part of our mission as Christians.
The mission of the Church is largely connected with Christian Unity. Since the launching of worlwide mission held in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1910, the world has seen the great power of gospel to transform lives and societies. However we also experienced divisions that marred the gospel of love we preached.
This event shall be our expression of ecumenical solidarity, as we journey towards reconciliation with God and the whole oikoumene.
